Not sure what they put in the lotion, but am sure that it is not a self tanner. It simply WORKS! I bought it upon reading a good review and very glad I did. Worth every dollar.

Great color, no streaking, no orange hands, the smell going on is great. HOWEVER, after you tan, the smell is terrible. My husband (Mr. Brutally Honest) said that it gave off an combination odor of urine and heavy duty floor cleaning product. It was even worse once the water from the shower touched it. It was fine after the shower, great moisture & I didnt find that I hit a color plateau which was great. It came to be that I would only be able to use the lotion when I had no other plans after tanning and where I wasnt going to be around anyone to offend them & their olfactory nerve.

I wanted something that was not going turn me orange, smelled nice (not like tanning lotion), and gave me a slight tan when I used it. I love Hempz lotion and was REALLY excited when I found this product. It shipped quickly and works great. I love the smell, and I love that the smell only slightly lingers. It adds a little sparkle when wearing it and I have noticed that I am turning a little tan, instead of the glaring white I was. I only use it 2-3 times a week, in between my other lotions and when applying to my face, I don't wash my hands before putting on my regular face lotion. I get a little bit of the product mixed in with my regualr moisturizer and my face looks even and blended. The medium tone is perfect and I would recommend it for all skin colors, even the lightest pale. Very happy with this buy and once I run out I will buy it again!

These are particularly handy for traveling because they weigh less than a bottle of self tanner. The depth of the tanning shade is medium and has one of the least powerful scents compared to other lotions I've tried. The tanning sheet sufficiently covers your face, neck, chest, and tops of your shoulders (but wouldn't cover your entire body). I would recommend it and have given these as gifts and gotten friends hooked on them as well.

This year, I decided to try Fake Bake because the tanning bed is bad for the skin, especially if you are fair and moley like me! I decided to apply this on a Friday night in case I came out looking like an orange and white zebra I would have the weekend to figure out what to do, but nope...this stuff is great. I followed the directions exactly and the next morning, after showering - I have a nice even color all over. I am impressed! I have used it twice now. Fakebake.com recommends using it once a week to maintain a tan. The second time I used it, same results but I am even darker. It looks like I have been going to the tanning bed. Very natural color and even. I also use Oil of Olay Quench Radiance Reviver everyday. This probably is helping maintain the tan a little longer. This is regular Oil of Olay Quench lotion with a hint of self tanner in it. It just subtly tans and says on the bottle that its just to give you a glow and not really a tan, but its great to use everyday in between using the Fake Bake once a week.

(More customer reviews)As another reviewer stated, this is not the same stuff you receive directly from Maui Babe. I originally ordered a bottle from their website and fell in love with the stuff. I was headed to the beach in 3 days so needed something capable of being overnighted. MauiBabe ships via USPS so this wasn't fast enough for me. I turned to Amazon and was shocked by the price difference ($22 for 1 8oz bottle on Maui Babes site, $18 for 2 8oz bottles here). I ordered the stuff off here and immediately noticed the difference. The labeling is the same, but the product in the bottle is definitely not. The stuff mailed to me from Amazon was way darker and smelled disgusting (the original stuff smells sweet). This stuff had a chemical smell to it. I emailed Amazon questioning why the discrepancy and they just issued me a refund. I didn't ask for one I was just wondering.
There is no way this is the same stuff you get directly from the company. This stuff stains your skin (looks like a self tanner) while the other stuff doesn't. The REAL product is amazing, but whatever they are selling here is not. Do NOT order it from SellThrifty, or any company not Maui Babe Inc. The product is not authentic.
I do credit Amazon for refunding me, however they shouldn't sell impostor products on here.

It's the best sunless tanner out there. It can be applied fast and with ease, doesn't streak, dries quickly, isn't sticky, and the original smell is good. Eventually, it does turn to the classic sunless tanner smell, but it's not very strong at all and doesn't last long. This product does, however, need a few coats to get good color but after a few coats, it is wonderful!

I tried a countless # of self-tanners, from drugstore brands to pricey high-end ones, and none compared to the results I received with this product. This leaves skin with a natural looking tan, a color that I would achieve by spending hours out in the sun (I am olive complexed). I initially used this 3 nights in a row (apply before bedtime) to achieve my desired color and have been re-applying twice weekly to maintain. There are 2 products that are "recommended" that you use before applying the bronzant that I didn't bother wasting my $ on since this is pricey enough (hence the 4 stars).

I used to pay $25 for the larger bottle, I believe it was the 24 oz bottle and I paid the same price for the 8 oz bottle. Im not sure if their prices have just skyrocketed but you might be able to find it cheaper at a local discount salon. I mix half lotion and half tanning lotion. It makes it last longer and because it's so dark it gives you a little more time to build up your color.
